Solving Better Problems
WebLegs' goal is to provide a solid, scalable and [hopfully] standard API for web development.
Created Organically
It began with clients contracting us to build websites and admin systems for their businesses. Some clients hosted on Windows Servers (IIS) and some on Linux (Apache). Like most programmers, we created helper functions for different tasks and overtime, we realized that we could accomplish the same result in different environments. Ah hah! WebLegs was born.
We only built functionality that we needed which keeps the API flat and flexible. We plan to expand the API with libraries for FTP, XMPP, JSON and other functionalities.
A Standard Web Develpment API
The Internet couldn't be where it is today without open standards like HTML, CSS and Javascript.
We think there is room for a web development standard. We're not saying we know it all or that WebLegs is perfect. But we are saying there should be a standard process for this kind of development. And instead of just saying so, we busted our butts and created an API and a framework in 6 of the most popular web ready languages.
It's all about solving better problems, not about the programming languages or environments. We've proven that much so far.
It's GPL for a Reason
We didn't do this for money, we're interested in sharing the wealth of information.
And it feels good giving back. We've learned so much because of the other open source projects and standards. And it's humbling to have such a large supply of collaboration and information available. We're all extremely lucky for the hard work of the open source community.
At the end of the day, we chose the GPL for WebLegs because it helps defend the rights of all free software users. Visit fsf.org and opensource.org for more information.
